Hillarys Craft Competition 2015
Dinner for Two
Hillarys Craft Competition came around again and I thought I would have another go.
This time I choose Hatti Raspberry - "Classic stripes never go out of style and our Hatti Raspberry fabric provides a lovely way to ‘learn your lines’!".
When the fabric arrived two things came immediately to mind quilting and that fabric will go really well with the new table for outside.
My aim was chair covers and place mats, but even with adding the backing fabric it was going to be tight on fabric and I would have to find something for the binding.
So I kept it simple and stuck to the tablemats.
As the table was round I started with a plan on paper
Then made a pattern for the placemats, marking the centre of the table and using string to get a curve for the mats.
To save time I cut a piece of fabric that would be big enough for both mats and coasters, tacking the layers together.
Put the walking for on the sewing machine and stitched every strip because I couldn't decide when to stop.
Using the template I cut out the mats and coasters from the quilted piece of fabric.
Using the negative template to choose the position for the coasters
Because the edges were straight on three sides and the fourth only had a slight curve I was able to bind with straight strips but did cut bias strips for the coasters.
I had a little fabric left over so made a quick lampshade using an idea from pinterest and will use the rest of the fabric up in a similar way, but for now I have run out of time the deadline for entering approaches.
So "Dinner is set for Two"
